Vocational Training Centre for Hearing Impaired youth

An institute for deaf people runs by the All India Federation of The Deaf (AIFD) to
support deaf boys and girls, specially from the under privileged community to build up
their prospect by providing vocational trade training, since 1976. The institute also a
place of congregation and interaction where hearing impaired people from every corner
in India, forgetting their religion, cast or pecuniary status share their views and values.

Institute located at Qutub Institutional Area of South Delhi with a campus area of 1.5 acre within
greeneries adjoining to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Institute runs two ITI course Photographer & Cutting/Sewing and planning to induct Fitter
course very soon. We are also trying to introduce some more courses in future so that the
Hearing Impaired people can be benefitted. Beside ITI courses we run two more trade training
programme, Computer basic and Advance linked to Printing –Graphics and a wonderful
combination of Turner-Fitter- Welder course for two years that can cater the small scale and
medium scale industry very well.
Inside campus Institute provide hostel facility for the students, both boys and girls. Hostel for
the Deaf provide dormitory accommodation with hot water facility in winter. Canteen facility is
also there for the borders and day scholars.
Scholarship & Sponsor:
For needy students, institution tries to arrange scholarship and sponsorship from Government
and Private funding agencies. Every year on average 15 to 20 students are benefitted from such
Our institute students are well known for their extra curriculum activities. Institute students
represented national and international level special sports events in Athletics, Soccer, and
Chess etc. Every year students participate in trekking organized at Uttarakhand terrains.
Institute cultural troops are widely appreciated for their stage performance specially in Mime theatre. Students bagged medals from different contests including spot painting, Face painting etc.
AIFD or All India Federation of the Deaf was set up to unite the deaf people all over the country. In the year 1955, December 22nd the team started its journey and became an apex body of different affiliated organizations who are serving the deaf community. It also works with World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) which is in turn affiliated to UNESCO, UNICEF and ILO of United Nations (UNO). To develop awareness campaign, AIFD has been constantly providing necessary assistance to the affiliated organizations and united different NGOs working for similar causes.
